Q. How do I claim a vehicle or personal property from a vehicle?
To claim personal property from a vehicle:
- You must present PHOTO identification when claiming a vehicle or property from a vehicle.
- A legally licensed driver must be present to remove any vehicle from impound.
- If your vehicle does not have current registration, you must bring in the vehicle title, (in your name) or have a title faxed from your lien holder.
- You may not remove personal property from the vehicle until you can prove ownership.
To claim your vehicle:
- You must provide current registration.
- In the event the vehicle was purchased in the past thirty days, you must have a properly executed title or a notarized bill of sale if you purchased the vehicle from a private party. The bill of sale does not need to be notarized if it is from a dealership and accompanied by proper in-transits. Home-made in-transits are not legal.
Q. How do I claim a vehicle that is not registered to me?
A. You must have a notarized note from the owner of the vehicle authorizing a named party to claim the vehicle on their behalf. The vehicle description and a copy of the owner's driver's license must accompany the note.
